by Brian O'NeillIt is ironic that the preceding My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult disc was the remix compilation Dirty Little Secrets, because The Reincarnation of Luna sounds like a slew of remixes in its own right. This owes in part to the presence of some soundscapes that are unique to the group, though the results are mixed. "Hour of Zero" wants to be an ethereal blaxploitation number but it winds up a Dr. Dre production ripoff, and "Asylum Disciple," try as is might to resemble a cool retro disco track, instead approximates some forgettable Madonna B-side. Even when the group sticks to what it does best -- guitar-punctuated, bass-heavy alterna-dance with sampled sex, pseudo-satanic asseveration, and sonic schlock, such as on leadoff track "Radio Silicon" -- the result seems lightweight compared to past glories, as if the band is trying to write another "Sex on Wheels" and is being too obvious about it.
