Don't Be Concerned
by Richie Unterberger Built around his big hit "Elusive Butterfly," Bob Lind's debut LP presented similarly creatively orchestrated early folk-rock, arranged and produced by Jack Nitzsche . The combination of singer-songwriter folk-rock with lush yet tasteful orchestration was a pioneering one, though others such as Tim Buckley and Judy Collins would make more enduring records in what came to be called the baroque folk style. All of Lind's most famous songs are here -- not just the much-covered "Elusive Butterfly," but also "Mr. Zero" (covered by Yardbirds singer Keith Relf ), "Counting" (covered by Marianne Faithfull ), "Cheryl's Goin' Home" (covered by the Blues Project ), and "Drifter's Sunrise" (covered by the Gants ), though "You Should Have Seen It," "Truly Julie's Blues (I'll Be There)," and "It Wasn't Just the Morning" are of the same caliber. The jaunty country novelty "The World Is Just a B-Movie" sounds the only jarring tone in what's otherwise a very stylistically consistent album. All of the tracks were issued on each of the two CD compilations of Lind's mid-1960s recordings for World Pacific, 1993's Elusive Butterfly: The Complete Jack Nitzsche Sessions and 2007's You Might Have Heard My Footsteps: The Best of Bob Lind .
