Another Christmas
Song Lyrics: Another Christmas © by Wesley Brown & Mike Smith The fire is burning brightly, the stockings hanging up above Tree lights are a twinkling, decorated with love Turkeys in the oven, pumpkin pie smelling good It's a Wonderful Life is finished, fireplace needs more wood There's a knocking at the door, my crazy in-laws oh-boy But they did bring some beer, and the kids a few toys Jingle bells keep playing, getting on my last nerve Cause the bells I hear ringing are cash-registers Cause it's another Christmas, I can't afford no more The credit cards are maxed out, got a bad credit score I'm all out of money, and bankruptcy's near Even if I wanted, couldn't afford more cheer The kids are opening presents, they'll forget in a week Grandpa's drinking early, he takes his spirits neat Grandma keeps yelling, nothing in life is free The dog ate the stuffing, lifted his leg on the tree Brother in law is posing, under the mistletoe Winking and a strutting, he wants the money I owe Commercial's are screaming buy it now, buy it fast If I don't find some money, this Christmas may be my last Cause it's another Christmas, I can't afford no more The credit cards are maxed out, got a bad credit score I'm all out of money, and bankruptcy's near I can't afford more presents, I may break into tears My wife is dear and happy, her smile lights up the room Don't have the guts to tell her of our impending doom Family can be good, when they have money to share So I better act nice, cause I'll need them next year I dream of a white Christmas, and I'm praying to God Maybe I can slip and then claim some insurance fraud My football team just lost , they didn't cover the spread This doggone Christmas, I'm worth more if I'm dead Cause it's another Christmas, I can't afford no more The credit cards are maxed out, got a bad credit score My 401k was wiped out, and bankruptcy's near How will I pay for these presents, it's going to take years Santa's a big sell out, he's naughty not nice He's now on my list, and I'm checking it twice And what's up with that Rudolph, why is his nose always so red Walk away quickly, and don't get in that sled So don't say anymore, about old Saint Nick Because his present to me, was a two week pink-slip I dread the New Year, need some money somehow And I could use a holiday miracle, right about now Cause it's another Christmas, I can't afford no more The credit cards are maxed out, got a bad credit score My house is underwater, and bankruptcy's here Even if I wanted, couldn't afford more cheer And it' s another Christmas, I'm down to my last beer. Artist Notes: I am not a musician, but was inspired to write this song because of the commercialization of the holiday. Last year, my friend who was a contractor with a young family, had no work. It was also becoming clear that my job was in jeopardy and Christmas was in two months. We talked about how the holiday was a burden and wondered how my friend was going to provide "Santa" to his children. It was a lean year. It took a year to find Mr. Mike Smith, accomplished musician with the skills and equipment to create the music, perform and record it. I say he "nailed it". I hope you enjoy it. Good luck and happy holidays.
