What do you get when you take two experienced solo artists and put them in the same country for six months? The Bomb EP. Royal T and The Midas are two lifelong friends who have both had successful endeavors in music, yet the pair have made very little music together before now, why? In the beginning, they recorded a few projects and were beginning to play shows together when Royal T was offered a once in a lifetime opportunity performing in Thailand and touring throughout the Asian continent. What was supposed to be a few months overseas turned to years and the pair were forced to put their partnership on hold. While Royal T was playing shows nightly, Zach The Midas pursued a solo-career here in the States, producing over a dozen projects, playing hundreds of shows, and opening for some of the biggest artists in hip-hop. Between them, Royal T and The Midas have played thousands of live-shows, been on stage in front of thousands of fans at a time and sold in excess of 5000 physical units. Royal T and The Midas first learned to write music together, but then developed those skills on opposite ends of the world; now they're back together and ready to drop "The Bomb EP" on the world. The songs on "The Bomb EP" have an undeniably universal appeal, Zach credits much of this to Royal's overseas experience: "Royal basically spent the better part of a decade performing American music for people who don't speak english; so I think in doing that, he really developed a strong sense of what makes a song great. He has a unique perspective." Zach The Midas and Royal T's individual styles are as different as their tastes in music. When Royal says "Smokey Robinson is the greatest songwriter of all time", Zach claims that crown goes to Bob Dylan. "But where we find common ground is Al Green. We both love Al Green. I feel like that's musically where we meet in the middle, we both love soul and it shows in our music." When they set out to write songs together, Royal says, they didn't intend to make soulful hip-hop: "We didn't realize it at the time, but when we write together, we only use something, a lyric or melody, if we both really like it. If we don't agree it gets thrown away, so after we wrote a bunch of songs and then started cutting the ones we didn't both agree on, what we had left were five, sort of, soul-inspired tracks." In late 2014, Royal T returned to the United States permanently and he and Zach picked up right where they had left off years before. They immediately began producing beats and writing songs together and a few months later "The Bomb EP" was ready to drop. "The Bomb EP" is a five track collection of bass-heavy, melody-driven songs written and produced by hip-hop duo Royal T and The Midas. The Columbus, Ohio natives have a distinct midwest sound which Royal T describes this way: "Living in Ohio, we grew up listening to everything: West Coast, East Coast, Down South and of course artists from The Midwest… so when you listen to our songs, you can hear all those different influences coming through." The Bomb EP is entirely self-produced by the pair and contains no samples: "We wanted to make something completely original, something that came entirely out of our heads, so we locked ourselves in the studio to see what we could come up with" says The Midas. What they came up with are five original songs with bass-heavy grooves and unforgettable melodies which, when combined with clever lyricism and original phrasing, make "The Bomb EP" easy to remember.
