The Astronauts is a band that originates from Ampang Kuala Lumpur in September 2013. The band started off by Akmal (A.K.A. Projex Mal) and Feroz with the intention to record Akmal’s 1st single “Saat Ku Tinggi”. Feroz wants to help and push Akmal’s artistic talent to become an establish songwriter and Solo Artist. Eventually Zarif Nawawi and Amil (A.K.A Dizzy Frizzy Salleh) joined the band to help on recording of the single. Turns out the band starts to form with all members felt that there is a connection between all members thus The Astronaut was formed. The band believes that “a song can be done in a thousand different ways, hence the art should flow when the heart truly is”. The band carries a distinctively different sound elements by each of the band members having a back ground elements from pop, rock, jazz, blues, fusion, psychedelic effects, classical strings, etc. which makes the foundation of the band to be very strong. Samplings of demo songs were created at Akmal’s home on acoustics by Akmal and Feroz creating 20 over original songs in a space of 3 weeks. With the help from Zarif and Amil, The Astronauts had managed to finish 3 full song arrangements to date with others ready to be explored in the future. Recording of “Saat Ku Tinggi” was done at Laguna Studio KL in September 2013 and Mix/Master at Los Angeles. We expect to release this single commercially in December 2013/January 2014. Saat Ku Tinggi was written by Akmal for his mother who never gave up her hopes on him even though he was a stubborn person and during the time he was so messed up in his life. The song was re-interpreted by Fairoz describing a man’s expression of regret for his life, chasing richness in life forgetting all of those that had been around him - family, friends, loved ones, working colleagues, etc. Other Materials will soon to follow and our plan is to prepare an album material to be release in middle of 2014.
