After projects with jazz musicians such as John Scofield and Donny Mccaslin and pop musicians such as Saul Kurtz, Gideon King has taken some time out to play alone. Fascinated by jazz harmony and solo guitar, King has begun work on his Standard Studies series with an improvised solo version of the iconic Stella By Starlight. Weaving his familiar fusion tone and jazz/funk lines and chords into the harmonic framework of Stella, King has played an intimate version of this old favorite in a modern fashion while showing due deference for traditional chordal melody and the song itself.
