In between projects, Gideon King takes time out to play alone. His intimate solo recording of My Funny Valentine is part of his Standard Studies series, in which he improvises around the chordal structure of old favorites. While King is always working on pop, jazz, and fusion projects, Standard Studies is a chance to hear what this guitar player has to say when left completely alone in a recording studio without the constraint of playing in time or with others. Whether working on pop, fusion, or jazz projects, King's distinctive playing style is a blend of John Scofield, Pat Metheny, and Carlos Santana. Influenced heavily by the likes of Coltrane, Steely Dan, and other crossover musicians, King interweaves harmonic complexity with simple beauty to create a unique sound. Engaged in a diverse array of projects, Gideon King can be found playing and composing with talented singer/songwriters, tried and true jazz players, or alone. Currently he is working on a project in which he has assembled some of the world's most respected fusion and jazz musicians.
